Developed under the name "Project Mercury", the Game Gear was the primary competition to the Game Boy, the Atari Lynx and the TurboExpress.
A common issue with the original Game Gear is batteries being left in the compartment and leaking acid over time. Often this is a simple fix of replacing the eroded battery contacts.
Unscrew your console using a Game Bit 4.5 and Philips screwdrivers (we sell them), then desolder the wires between the 2 halves of the battery compartment.
Use a flat screwdriver to push the tabs on the springs flat so the springs can be pulled out. Remove all battery springs and replace with new springs.
Re-solder the joining wires back into place and bend down the tabs on the new springs.
