It's not required, but it is cool. The Neo Geo AES has a semi-transparent black reset button that is perfect for a soft glowing LED mod.
We used to perform these by hand-wiring 3mm LEDs and resistors all around the button. This took time and was not perfectly diffused. We wanted something better, so we made the CleanLight RGB!
The CleanLight RGB comes with the RetroCore (a Raspberry Pi RP2040 mini board) and the LED ring that fits over the reset button containing 8 WS2812B LEDs, along with a pre-programmed file to illuminate the button in various colors, which you can change by holding down the reset button.
Short press resets console, long press changes colors (and remembers them after power down). Can be turned off completely.
As this is a Raspberry Pi board and we provide the USB-C port you could program this with custom code if you liked to add completely custom effects or ask us to make one for you if you like.
The LED ring can be extended if we make future LED add-ons such as controller port, game port, or anything else.
